Write your habit contract.
A habit contract is a promise to yourself, written down: what you'll do, how you'll prove it, and what it costs you if you don't. Fill in this one for free, with no sign-up, then copy it, or text it to us and we'll hold you to it.
How to write a habit contract, in four steps
1. Name a habit you can prove. “Go to the gym” works, because a photo shows it. “Be healthier” doesn't: nothing proves it.
2. Pick a rhythm you'll keep. Three times a week that you hit beats every day that you don't.
3. Put a stake on it that stings a little. Enough that you'd rather do it than pay; not so much that you quit.
4. Give it to someone who checks. A contract nobody reads is a wish. Text yours to us, and we hold you to it.
Questions
Do habit contracts work?
They work best when missing costs you something right away. People try harder to avoid a loss than to win the same amount, so a stake and someone who checks beat a promise you keep in your head.
What should a habit contract include?
The habit, how often, when you start, the proof you'll send each time, and what you'll pay if you miss. Sign it with your name, so it reads as a promise, not a plan.
How much money should I put on it?
Enough that you'd rather do the habit than pay, and little enough that one miss won't make you quit. Our examples use $5 to $20 a time.
Who should hold me to it?
Someone who will actually check, like a friend, a coach or us. A contract nobody reads is a wish. Text yours to Honorbound and we ask for your proof each time.
Is the template free?
Yes. Fill it in and copy it, with no email and no sign-up. Texting it to Honorbound is up to you.
